Dog Hand Obedience Signal Training

Solid liver and white coat color

Dog training begins virtually at birth. Dogs that are handled and petted by humans regularly during the first eight weeks of life are generally much more amenable to being trained and living in human households.

Puppies can begin learning tricks and commands by this age; the only limitations are the pup's stamina, concentration, and physical coordination. It is much easier to live with young dogs that have already learned basic commands such as sit. Waiting until the puppy is much older and larger and has already learned bad habits makes the owner's training job much more difficult.

Dog Owner's Guide: Obedience trials
Obedience trials grew from the efforts of early trainers to popularize their chosen profession and to prove that dog-human partnerships could shine in arenas other than the conformation ring and the field. The American Kennel Club version of the sport is now promoted and practiced by hundreds of obedience clubs, kennel clubs, and specialty clubs throughout the US.

Dog Logic Obedience Articles
Attention trained dogs are great to watch, and fun to work with. Obedience work is the most obvious beneficiary of Attention Training. But, Breed Handling also benefits greatly from an Attention Trained dog. Imagine not having to toss bait onto the ring floor, but quietly asking your dog for a stack? People are greatly impressed by a dog who watches its trainer, and the overall impression you create as a team in the ring can make the difference between a good score and a Win! I can tell you a bit about the mechanics involved and what the training should do for you in the long run.

Dog Owner's Guide: Summary Topic List
The Dog Owner's Guide website was established in 1995 with 90 pages of material that previously appeared in the print edition. All 300-plus articles now on the website appeared first in the print edition of Dog Owner's Guide, but not necessarily in their current form. Because of the differences between one-time print publication and constant access to the website, articles are updated regularly as new information becomes available.

Dog-Play: Behavior, Socialization, and Training
Effective training requires good timing. This is the most difficult thing for most dog owners to learn. A critical difference between the way people learn and the way dogs learn involves the use of language.
