How To Build A Dog House – Some Useful Tips

If you browse online for dog houses, you will be surprised of how much they cost. That is one of the reasons that make dog owners resort to building their own dog houses. However, not all folks know how to build a dog house from scratch.

First, get yourself a good dog house blueprint. By searching the internet, you may find the easiest and most basic dog house plan. If you know a bit of carpentry, it will definitely help especially if you don’t know how to build a dog house from scratch.

Next is decide on the size of the dog house. In order for you to build the right-sized dog house, you need to measure your dog’s height and length. Measure your dog’s length and height in order to estimate the size of the dog house and its entry way.

For durability, you may use cedar wood for your dog’s house. When you buy the wood panels, make sure to give the right measurements to the wood shop and ask the manager if they can cut the panels for you. This goes for the roofing material as well, so you don’t have to do the cutting yourself.

Make sure to buy paint, nails and hinges for the roof paint. You can help moderate the temperature inside the dog’s house by adding insulation material or padding.

Do not forget to elevate the floor of the dog’s house. 3 inches off the ground is perfect to allow air circulation underneath the house. It also helps in keeping the interior warm during winter and cold during summer.

You can make the roof of the dog house detachable. Or you can attach hinges on one side to allow you to lift it up when it’s clean-up time. It is best to use non-metal roofing for the dog house to prevent the interior from getting too hot. You can use cedar wood for roofing plus a water-proof coating to cover the wood.

Once the dog house is built, it is ideal to place it under a covered area or in any spot on your yard where it can get added protection.
