A Guide For Arizona Pet Shops

Arizona has created a task force to help manage and monitor how Arizona pet shops take care of the animals they are selling. Just because they are selling those animals, and the fact that they are not your pet does not mean that they don’t deserve to be treated humanely. Without a sense of responsibility Arizona pet shop owners might neglect their animals.

The problem is not only Arizona pet shops; animal grooming establishments, breeding facilities, kennels, and even animal shelters are common violators of animal rights. Making these people legally responsible to fully implement laws against animal cruelty is the best action to be taken.

Follow These Simple Rules
An Arizona pet shop must have a resident veterinarian or currently have a veterinarian on its pay roll to on call and to check up on its animals regularly. This is to ensure that the animals are healthy and is in proper care. Not only will a sick pet be a danger to itself but also to the owners. There is also a danger of causing an epidemic among animals.

An Arizona pet shop should know the history and background of the animals they are selling. They must have the health and medical records as well as the breeding history of that animal upon request of the animal task force or the consumer. It is also important to remember that although an Arizona pet shop’s aim is to gain profit, they should never misrepresent an animal’s breed, health or pedigree as this is punishable by law.

For Arizona pet shops that sell puppies they must post the puppy lemon law in their establishments. Non profit establishments like humane societies or rescue groups, however, are not required to do so.

If encase the need for euthanasia arises, an Arizona pet shop must go about it in the most humane way and the acceptable way as according to the task force. Never neglect the needs of your animals. As Arizona pet shop owners you should also be aware that cats and dogs cages should never be place in close proximity with each other.

In the beginning the task force sent out letter notices to all Arizona pet shop owners that there is now a law governing body to implement laws against animal cruelty. These days the task force goes into Arizona pet shops without prior notice; a surprise inspection to see if the pet shops really take care of their animals.

Kennel Training your English Springer Spaniel

There seems to be some controversy about dog kennel training. Many believe that cages, kennels and crates are today’s answer to quick convenient punishment. Others point out that many dogs find comfort in their own place and some find quite strange places to call their own- the washing basket, the tumble drier, the bottom drawer…..

Crate trainingWhen kennel training your English Springer Spaniel you must ensure that you do not put your dog in there when he has been bad as tempting as it may be. Also don’t leave your dogs in the kennel for more than four hours due to the fact that they will need to stretch and need the toilet. Many dogs start to feel uncomfortable after four hours and then they begin to get anxious. Dogs that spend too much time alone in their crate when they are young may not socialize well with people and other pets. The purpose of crate training is to use the crate to teach your dog good bathroom habits and the proper things to chew. It should never be a substitute for quality time with you. A lot of people aren’t using kennels properly and therefore end up with more problems then they had started with.

There are many benefits of using the crate training technique when it comes to teaching your new English Springer Spaniel puppy proper behavior. First, a crate will offer your pup a warm, secure environment to sleep in. Second, your pup will have a secure area when you are not available to keep a close eye on him. This can save you from finding any number of items that your puppy might decide to chew on, like your shoes, the bedspread or your new sofa.

The first thing you need to do is identify the reason that you are using dog kennel training for. Is it is for housebreaking? Chewing? Making a mess? Once you have identified the reason you then need to utilize the cage to your advantage. All dogs should feel at home when they enter their cage. Food and water should always be available to them and comfortable bedding. For chewing problems chew toys should be available in the kennel and no where else. If he is caught chewing elsewhere, show him his chew toy in the crate and don’t shout at him.

Potty Training with a Crate or Kennel
Crate training your English Springer Spaniel is one of the most effective means of housebreaking your pup. Dogs learn early on that they should not eliminate in the same location that they sleep. This means that spending time in his crate will help your puppy to learn that he can hold his urges until he is in the proper spot to go. Dogs must be trained just like little children are trained and thus they should be introduced to correct dog potty training at an early stage when they are most receptive to learning and which will ensure that your dog goes out and does its business where it has been taught to go.

A good way to start is to crate your dog so you can keep a close eye on your pet while he is being trained to do his potty in the proper place. It is best to purchase a crate that will allow your pup to turn around and stand up, but is not too large that he will be able to find a corner to eliminate in. Since you may want to purchase one crate that will grow with your dog, you can find larger crates that come with temporary dividing walls. This way, you can section off a smaller area of your crate for the puppy, and move or remove it as your dog gets bigger.

Inside of the crate, you can place a blanket for sleeping and a chew toy or two along with his food and water. When you bring your pup home, show him his crate, but do not shut him inside right away. It is best to let him go in and out of it at his will at first, until he gets used to the space.

Once your pup is accustomed to his crate, usually within the first few hours after coming home, you can use this space to confine your pet at night and whenever you are not available to keep a close eye on him. Do not shut a puppy in a crate for more than a couple of hours at a time, unless it is for overnight sleeping. Your puppy may need to eliminate very frequently at the beginning, sometimes every hour. Once you notice your dog start to get uncomfortable in his kennel take him out and let him do his business. Once he has, praise him and continue to repeat. Make sure that your dog gets outside to go to the bathroom regularly and spend time playing and cuddling with him as well.

You may think caging up a dog is cruel but in truth it is not. What happened to us when we were small? We were left in our cot or playpen to play, that is what you are doing to your dog, nothing cruel or inhumane… just practical.

English Springer Spaniel Rescue

There are plenty of good reasons to make an English Springer Spaniel your next family pet. First, English Springer Spaniels are one of the most intelligent breeds of dog, making training a much easier process with these animals. Second, English Springer Spaniels are exceedingly friendly with young and old alike. Springers are also extremely playful and friendly and possess a marvelous sense of humor.

Are you sold on the English Springer Spaniel breed? Then why not try a English Springer Spaniel rescue? You probably won’t be able to adopt a puppy from a rescue, but there are many advantages to bringing an adult dog into your family that you may have never thought of. And you will have the satisfaction in knowing that you are giving one of these beautiful creatures a new lease on life.

The Advantages to an Adult Dog
Some potential dog owners won’t consider a English Springer Spaniel rescue because they have their hearts set on getting a puppy. A puppy may be cute, but that tiny bundle of fur is a ball of energy and destruction if it is not given the attention and training that it requires.

Housebreaking will be one of the most important tasks that you will attempt to undertake with your English Springer Spaniel puppy, and this can take as long as a few weeks to a few months, depending upon your dog. On the other hand, an adult dog from a English Springer Spaniel rescue is probably already housebroken, since foster families usually ensure that this task is completed before the dog becomes available for adoption. Older dogs are also less likely to chew up your favorite shoes or the television remote than puppies are, but are capable of offering the same affection and bonding experience as a younger pup.

If you think that rescuing a English Springer Spaniel is the right choice for you, you can check the Yellow Pages or the Internet for a English Springer Spaniel rescue organization in the area that you live. Most of these rescues will have dogs available, although they will probably require that you follow a rather extensive process to ensure that you are the right home for one of their babies. English Springer Spaniel rescue can be a great way to extend your family with a fun and loving family pet.

Objectives for English Springer Spaniel Rescue
Individuals and groups are working together to relocate English Springer Spaniels into homes that will be permanent. The main objectives are to take in those dogs whose owners can no longer care for them for one reason or another, and to find them new homes that will be loving, stable and a responsible place to curl up.

The Convenience of Online Pet Stores

We all seem to have less and less time to do the things that we want these days.

Fortunately due to the convenience of the Internet we don’t need to forget our best friend simply because we haven’t got the time to get to the local pet shop for toys and supplies that will keep our dogs happy and healthy.

Some of the biggest distributors of dog supplies sell their wares on the Internet, which is great for busy people like us.

Add to that the fact that more often than not the goods we are buying are cheaper than we would ever pay at the local pet shop and we’re winning on both counts.

And it gets even better with the goods getting delivered to our door, generally overnight so we don’t even have to wait long to get our purchases.

The big online pet stores have all the latest items and the best dog foods and you can browse online and find out all the information you need before buying.

Best of all, you can do it 24 hours a day at your own convenience and when you have a spare moment to place your orders.

Shopping online is both safe and convenient and there are money savings by buying online that can’t be gained by shopping at the malls.

This is especially good for people who live in areas where there are no suitable pet stores nearby, as door-to-door delivery will ensure you get the goods on time all the time without even having to leave the house.

If you are hesitant to make your first purchase online, just try buying something small to see how easy it is to order, but remember that there are often discounts for bigger purchases and some online stores offer free freight if you buy more than a specified amount from them.

How to Compare Pet Food Prices

Many pet owners suffer ’sticker shock’ when considering purchasing a better quality food. They look at the price tag and gasp when considering how fast Fido or Fluffy eats that bag of food. What they don’t know is that with better quality pet foods, you don’t feed as much –- cheap foods have cheap filler ingredients that do not satisfy the nutritional needs of the pet, thus they eat a lot more attempting to get the nutrition that their body is telling them they need. Better quality foods/ingredients provide the animal with quality nutrition and they eat on average 1/3 less.

Buying Pet Supplies from a Pet Store

Pet Supplies
If you already have a dog, you can typically find a wider variety of supplies at a large pet shop when compared to the average grocery store. The larger pet stores typically have the best prices and you can find some good deals on the internet.

Natural Products
If you are concerned about the health of your pet, some pet experts suggest you feed them natural products. There are pet stores that specialize in natural food products. If you are taking a holistic approach to pet care, you can purchase natural dog foods that are filled with quality protein and whole grains and fresh vegetables and do not contain unnatural preservatives.

Find a pet shop that offer natural products and also provides natural flea control products, various supplements, a variety of medicines, natural shampoos, vitamins, herbal remedies and organic treats. Some pet shops even offer toys that are made from natural hemp. If you are looking to buy a pet or find supplies look for a quality pet shop.

Should You Get a Purebreed Dog for Your Family?

While each individual dog has it’s own personality, there are strong traits that can be breed related such as energy requirements, size, determination (a factor to consider when training your dog) and general disposition. I say general because there are always exceptions to the rules. Getting a pure bred puppy can answer some of those questions for you and help you select a good match for your family.

On the other hand you can never absolutely predict a puppy’s temperment and if you are not at all concerned with size, energy or trainability then you can find a loving, good natured puppy with any genetic background. Being able to identify these traits is possible although there are still no guarantees.

If however you are looking for a grown dog rather than a puppy you can find many dogs in shelters that have basic training and are already ’settled’ into their temperament. Unless the dog has no traceable history and has shown aggressive behavior you should be able to visit with the dog and determine how well it would do with your family without too much concern.

Is your dog living in a safe environment?

Silly question isn’t it but not quite as silly as you might think at first.

We all like to provide our pets with a safe environment and giving them a safe and comfortable place to sleep is an important part of that environment.

While we might have provided our dog with a safe kennel initially, we all know how dogs like to bite and chew things and their kennel is not immune to their teeth.

While the kennel might have been safe when new a dog can chew parts of it that could expose wood, nails and/or wire that could cause it harm.

Their chewing could create sharp surfaces that can do permanent damage to their eyes or any other parts of their body.

It is always a good idea to have a regular check of your dogs’ kennel or cage to ensure there hasn’t been any damage that could harm it.

Also - when your dog is left alone in your yard or house you need to be sure that no harm can come to it if you are away for any period of time when you cannot monitor what it gets up to.

Owning a dog is a lot like having a child and they need constant care or they can do damage to themselves.

If you treat your pet like a child and assume that they can’t care too well for themselves then you are more likely to ensure that they will be safe at all times whether you are able to monitor them or not.

Rewarding Your Dog

Rewarding your dog is probably the single most important aspect of good training.

It is a well-known fact that reward training is the fastest way to get a dog to change their behavior and rewards in the form of positive reinforcement are the fastest way to get the desired results.

Reward training also makes the whole process more fun for the owner and the dog.
It becomes a bit of a game and helps to reduce any boredom and keep both the dog and the owner motivated.

It is also a good idea to finish each training session with a time for play so the dog associates the learning with fun times and is more excited about these sessions in the future.

Many people also like to have a little time before the training sessions for fun too, but that really depends on the personality of your dog as some can get overly excited and this can make the training sessions harder to control.

It is not often that you will find people promoting the use of ‘reprimand’ training these days as this is quite a dated technique and has been proven to be less effective than the newer positive
action training techniques.

Dogs will quickly become discouraged by this type of training and they can also get confused when they are unsure what they have been doing wrong.

It is far better to focus on more positive actions that are used to replace those areas of the dog’s behavior that are causing problems.

There are certain circumstances where the dog is aware of doing something wrong and in these instances where they will know why they are being reprimanded it is certainly suitable to do so, but once they have been reprimanded it is time to move on quickly and get back to the positive aspects of training.

Dog Food Related Allergies

Many of the causes of allergies in dogs are related to the food that your dog eats.

This is due to all the filler, colors and preservatives that the dog food manufacturers put into the processed dog foods that are sold through the stores.

There is a solution if you have a dog that has food allergies and it is not only a cost effective way to feed your dog but it can also add to the quality of your dogs health.

Creating your own dog food and dog treats might be the best solution for your dog’s allergies. Even if your dog doesn’t have food allergies you can often see an improvement in the health of a dog by changing to homemade treats that don’t have all the harmful additives of the dog food you will buy over the counter.

You will also have full control over the ingredients that you use for your food preparation and you can eliminate any foods that you already know your dog is allergic to.

If you are still unsure of the food that your dog might be allergic to you can add and delete the various different foods until you eliminate those that cause negative reactions and only use food
that your dog is comfortable eating.

While it might be difficult determining exactly what is in the dog food that you buy from the store you will always know exactly what your dog is eating if you prepare the food yourself.

You can create the food fresh and in the quantities that you require rather than rely on the portions that are determined by the manufacturers.

Get more information here.
